STATEMENT OF PROCEEDINGS OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA

BOARD MEMBERS  Supervisor Stone mentioned a vandalism incident in the City of Temecula toward the Ronald Reagan statue at the sport park and is offering a $10,000 reward leading to the successful apprehension and prosecution of those responsible. He also mentioned that Mr. and Mrs. Dave Butterfield purchased eight acres of land and have agreed to pay for the first phase of the development of the Idyllwild Community Center and will pay for the shortfall of operating the facility for the first ten years.

 

Supervisor Ashley commended RCRMC staff for the great care he received during and after his surgery.

 

Supervisor Tavaglione commended Heidi Marshal and her staff for all their efforts with Veterans Housing and surpassing their goal of getting 100 Veterans into housing into 140 Veterans.

 

Supervisor Benoit mentioned the State of the County on September 25, 2013 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. He also mentioned that the Board meeting on October 1, 2013, will be held in the Coachella Valley Water District Board Room.

 

EXECUTIVE OFFICER – Jay Orr mentioned that Shondi Lee has negotiated with UCR for County employees to receive a substantial discount to attend the Master of Professional Accountancy, Master of Finance and the MBA program at UCR. He also mentioned the Heart Walk and showed a brief video of the 1,700 Riverside County employees who participated.

 

STATE BUDGET UPDATE – Supervisor Tavaglione reported on the following: The State Legislature did not approve SB 56 to help local cities, but will work with the cities and county to figure out a fix to keep the cities incorporated; University of California AB 27 was signed by the governor to provide $15 million annually in ongoing funding; CEQA reform did not get anywhere this year but did provide for passage to allow for some exemptions for the Steinberg Stadium; The Prison Reform Compromise is awaiting approval by the three judge panel; and lastly, the governor signed a five year agreement at $30 million a year for two private lower security prisons to house state prisoners.
