AN ORDINANCE OF THE COUNTY OF RIVERSIDE

ESTABLISHING A VOLUNTEER PROBATION OFFICER PROGRAM

TO PROVIDE TRAINED AUXILIARIES AND VOLUNTEER CORPS IN

CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND PROVIDING FOR THE TRAINING,

DUTIES AND CONTROL OF ITS MEMBERS

 

 

The Board of Supervisors of the County of Riverside, State of California, Ordains as follows:

 

Section 1. ESTABLISHMENT OF VOLUNTEER PROBATION OFFICER AND AUXILIARY CORPS: hereinafter called "Corps", is hereby established as a voluntary organization composed of persons appointed by Riverside County Probation Officer. The members of the Probation's Corps may assist the County Probation Officer in performance of his duties.

 

Section 2. DIVISION OF FORCES. To facilitate organization and maintain efficient administration of the forces the County Probation Officer may establish or disband such general and specialized units as he deems necessary and appropriate.

 

Section 3. COUNTY PROBATION OFFICER TO HAVE CONTROL.

Subject to the provisions of this Ordinance, the control of the forces shall be vested in the County Probation Officer. He may appoint as members thereof any person whom he deems to be qualified, and may reject any application for membership. He shall provide for the training of personnel in general criminal justice activities and such other activities as he may deem appropriate, and for that purpose, may assign such members to various tasks, duties, training or other activities.

 

Section 4. METHOD OF APPOINTMENT. No person shall become a member of the forces until he is able to meet the requirements prescribed by the County Probation Officer. When so qualified and selected, he shall then be sworn in by the County Probation Officer or his representative, as member of the forces, and take the oath prescribed therefor.

 

Section 5. IDENTIFICATION. An identification card, and/or such other insignia or evidence of identification as the County Probation Officer may prescribe, may be issued. Each member must surrender all county property issued to him upon the termination of his membership.

 

Section 6. MEMBERSHIP LIMITS. The County Probation Officer may diminish or expand the forces as he deems necessary and appropriate.

 

Section 7. EQUIPMENT. The necessary equipment for members, and the proper use of such equipment, shall be prescribed by the County Probation Officer.
