Supervisor Ashley announced the creation of, and appointment to, a community committee to the Gateway Logistical Distribution Center.  The first meeting will be held Thursday April 10th at 10:30 a.m., with subsequent meetings held the 2nd Thursday of each month. 

 

Supervisor Benoit shared photos of his attendance at the 22nd Annual Senior Inspiration Awards, and discussed the Golden Sledge Hammer Ceremony in Indio; the demolition of the Riverside County Administrative Center and Indio Jail to begin building the East County Detention Center, which will add 1,626 beds.

 

Supervisor Stone spoke about attending the Golden Sledge Hammer event in Indio; and thanked Gwen and the late Jack Gosh for donating $500,000 to the Western Center Academy, a K-8 grade charter school.  He also discussed that the recent census identified 300 homeless veterans (in addition to the 300 they just assisted with shelter), and he will pursue providing shelter for these U.S. Veterans.

14-1    Garry Grant spoke regarding County Employee Service Awards and suggested tax payers be recognized for their service.  He is concerned the awards use meeting time that could be spent on county business.  He also questioned appointments to SCAQMD.

 

14-2    Paul Jacobs spoke regarding Item 3-5, RCIT.  He stated the CAC building allows public to access the web, but not their e-mail on wifi.  He discussed the county’s purchase of the Press Enterprise building to lease to RCIT, and the additional lease of the Acorn Center.  He suggested the floor RCIT vacated could be used for the innovation and technology conference center.

 

16-1    TRANSPORTATION & LAND MANAGEMENT AGENCY/PLANNING:  Public Hearing on the Appeal filed by Verizon Wireless on the denial by the Planning Commission of PLOT PLAN NO. 24928 which proposes a wireless communication facility for Verizon Wireless, disguised as a 65 foot high pine tree with twelve (12) panel antennas located on three (3) sectors at 58 foot height, one (1) parabolic antenna (“the project”), and consideration of adoption of the Negative Declaration for Environmental Assessment No. 42443. The project also includes approximately 200 square foot equipment shelter, two (2) GPS antennas, 30kw backup generator mounted on a new 5 foot by 8 foot concrete spill containment pad, associated coaxial cable runs, and associated conduits within a 900 square foot lease area surrounded by a six (6) foot block wall with landscaping on an approximately six (6) acre vacant site.  The location of the tower is to the southwest section of the property 50 feet away from the existing fault line.  Access to the facility is proposed with a 12 foot wide easement along the western property line.  The project is located northerly of Mayberry Ave., southerly of Acacia Ave., easterly of Stanford St., and westerly of Meridian Street, 3rd/3rd District.
